Council/District Newsflash: On Interent Advancement

Posted on Jul 25 2014 - 7:15pm

On July 1st the Orange County Council enacted the national policy that all advancements must be submitted online using Internet Advancement on myscouting.org. There will be a grace period extended until Sep 1st where the Council will continue to accept paper submissions.  After Sep 1st, the Council Service Center will no longer provide the paper advancement form and Scout Shops will require Internet Advancement print outs.    We will work to have the guide available soon.

2013 Eagle Advancement Report

Posted on Jul 25 2014 - 7:15pm

2013 was the 2nd highest year EVER for Eagle rank achievement, only exceeded by 2012 which was the 100th Anniversary of the Eagle Rank and carried a special recognition patch.

BSA enjoyed 58,841 new Eagles in 2013 while locally there were 735 new Eagles from the Orange County Council and 52 new Eagles from the Tiburon District. The service given to the community from Eagle Projects set new records with 9.3 MILLION service hours reported nationally, approximately 130,000 hours reported for the Council and 6,491 hours reported for the Tiburon District. The average age of new Eagles has held steady over the last few years. The national average age of Eagle rank achievement in 2013 was 17.2 years, Council was approximately 17.2 years and the Tiburon District average age was 16.5 years. 2013 was truly a banner year for newly soaring Eagles from the Boy Scouts of America!

As We Gear Up For the New Year: An Opportunity For Trained Leaders

Posted on Jul 25 2014 - 7:14pm

We here @ "Tiburon on the Web"  had a chance to catch up with our District Commisioner, Mr. Dart.  He advised of an opportunity for leadership training available through the San Diego Council.  We have attached this for reference and hope that Scouters will consider attending it.

Eagle FAQ: First in a Series

Posted on Jul 25 2014 - 7:13pm

As we gear up for a very busy fall here at the District, our Leadership Team has been on the prowl planning and gearing up.    We here at "Tiburon the Web" had a chance to confer with our Advancement Chair recently and he provided some recent guidance on Eagle Projects which we wanted to report on for all.

In his comments, He noted that, "....Before a Scout can do his Eagle Scout service project, he must find a proper beneficiary. It is important that the beneficiary understands the complexities of an Eagle project. To facilitate understanding there a a downloadable PDF ( available at ocbsa.org…in the Life to Eagle packet ) called “ Navigating the Eagle Scout Service Project: Information for Project Beneficiaries.” It explains everything a beneficiary needs to know to support an Eagle Scout candidate. Fundraising, permitting, safety and supervision are all covered, as are limitations on potential projects.  Eagle candidates face plenty of hurdles on the trail to Eagle…this guide makes one of the first of those hurdles a little easier to clear! "
